The depleting forest cover in Gurgaon was a huge concern. More importantly the need to understand the importance of planting native was something we wanted to communicate. Million Trees Gurgaon is an attempt to plant a million local native species in Gurgaon. The project started in 2011 and is supported by the government, NGOs, corporates, and civil society.
The program is not limited to just planting. Given the harsh climate of this area, taking care of these plants for three years to ensure they survive is equally important.
Our actions of yesterday, today and tomorrow will provide benefits to future generations.
Since the inception of the project in 2011, 1,74,389 trees have been planted under four projects; Aravali Biodiversity Park, Eco Restoration of Chakarpur Wazirabad Bundh, Sikanderpur Watershed & Restoration of the Forest and Badhshahpur Forrest Corridor, Gurgaon.

Cost
Contribution per tree is Rs. 750
The cost of sapling, planting, watering and maintaining a tree for three years is Rs 750 per tree. As these species are native to the Aravallis, they do not need intensive care post the initial three years. Drip irrigation, mulching and other techniques have allowed for a high survival rate of the saplings at more than 95%. For those plants that do not survive, new ones are planted in the following season.
